Iskonawa Basketry

Basketry and weaving are activities that involve both men and women for the purpose of creating a variety of objects, including baskets of different shapes and uses.

To elaborate on the weavings, the Iskonawa fabricate their baskets using materials from the forest. Among the types of baskets used by the Iskonawa people are:

"Kankan," a basket made from the young bark of the Lupuna tree, is made when it is still tender and soft. This basket has a wide opening and is used to carry objects and transport food, such as corn, cassava, and sachapapa, among others. "When transporting small objects, fresh leaves are placed inside to prevent them from falling" (Rodriguez, 2020).

"Tasá" is made from tamshi (a climbing jungle vine) and has a slightly round shape. Like the "kankan," it is used to carry harvested products.
