"The Transformation" is an original painting by artist Gerardo Petsaín who is of Wampis descent from the community of Dominguza, Amazonas in Peru. His work has been exhibited worldwide and presents beautifully detailed illustrations about the mythical world and ancestral narratives. Through his drawings, he is able to share his culture with others.
The story goes that one day the villagers gathered around to make an agreement to assassinate the king Panki (the boa king). But the male; who was in a hurry, desired to drink the masato and instead swallowed the entire bowl. And so with this, the man transformed into a monkey and thus transformed into every animal.

In the Awajún universe, producing art is the product of a dynamic relationship between knowledge, ritual, and mythical narration. In their worldview, there are three powerful beings: Nugkui (spirit of the earth), Etsa (spirit of the forest) and Tsuqki (spirit of the water).
