CRAFTING THE FIELD #07

A XAPIRI GROUND SERIES

FEATURING GHOSTHORSE

On the fourth of February, we held the inauguration for sound artist Ghosthorse (Carlos De La Cruz) featuring Shipibo-Konibo artists Lily and Leidy Panduro from the community of  Masisea in the Ucayali region of the Peruvian Amazon. This live performance was a reflection of the originally recorded work put together by Ghosthorse for the Crafting the Field series #07.

"The feeling I want to convey through this work is that heart of a culture that embraces a lot." Carlos De la Cruz

The fusion of digital and traditional worlds made for an evening where the listener and the participants engaged in the abstraction of sounds from the Ucayali region's forests with live Shipibo icaros. Leidy mentions that her icaros that night were dedicated to the listeners in the room, expressing her gratitude for having been welcomed to share in such an intimate gathering, after having come such a long way from her home in Yarinacocha.

"Me being here represents a lot for our culture in the way of how we are innovating with our icaros." Lily Sandoval Panduro

Traditionally, the icaro is utilized within ceremonial settings but as well as for the women to express themselves while they create or sharing in the company of others. We thank Carlos, Lily and Leidy for sharing their music with our community.
